The Deputy Commander of the General Command forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, revealed the focus of his talks with the President of the Republic of Chad, Mahamat Idris Déby Itno, which took place on Sunday, in N'Djamena, noting that they centered on reviewing “the operations of the joint forces tasked with securing and controlling the border between the two countries.”

In a post on his Facebook page, Saddam Haftar described his meeting with the Chadian president as “fruitful,” during which they reviewed “the operations of the joint forces tasked with securing and controlling the border between our two countries.”

Enhancing Security Coordination

Haftar said that during the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in combating illegal immigration, as well as enhancing security coordination, thereby contributing to consolidating stability in the Sahel region and addressing common threats.

He explained that his meeting with the Chadian president “comes within the framework of ongoing consultations and monitoring the readiness of the joint military forces between Libya and the Republic of Chad, while emphasizing the provision of the necessary resources to enable them to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.”

He added that this “coincides with the General Command’s continued fulfillment of its national duty to secure the southern border and to resolutely confront criminal gangs operating outside the law and crossing borders, as well as anything that threatens the security of citizens or undermines Libyan national security, thereby strengthening the nation’s security and preserving its stability.”

Military and Security Cooperation

Earlier today, the General Command in Benghazi stated that the meeting between Haftar and Déby focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly military and security matters, as well as regional issues of mutual interest.

In November 2025, the General Command announced the formation of a joint force with Chad to secure the border between the two countries, and commanders from both sides were appointed to conduct security patrols to monitor the security situation along the border.
