Italian media reported that government agencies in Malta had sold some 88,000 Schengen visas to Libyan nationals illegally, raising concerns that they might be close to the Maltese prime minister himself.

According to reports the visas were sold to Libyan citizens by Maltese government officials so they could travel freely throughout Europe under the pretext of receiving treatment.

Opposition MP's in Malta presented a court complaint, which contained numerous documents implicating senior Maltese government officials, including members of the Prime Minister's Office.
