The Misrata Seaport received 17 electrical transformers in preparation for their installation as part of “new strategic projects being implemented by the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) in a number of regions,” amid a power outage crisis affecting most of Libya’s cities, coinciding with rising temperatures. The company clarified in a statement on Sunday that the port received 14 transformers rated at 11/30 kV, in addition to three transformers rated at 220 kV, each with a capacity of 100 MVA.

All transformers were transported from Misrata to the company’s warehouses in the Al-Kararim area, with the exception of one 220 kV transformer, which will be transported directly on Monday, from the port to the Ghneima Power Plant project.

Electricity Company: Accelerating the Completion of Grid Efficiency Projects

The statement added that the company is working to accelerate the completion of strategic projects in various Libyan cities and regions, thereby contributing to improving the grid’s efficiency and enhancing its stability.

Due to the electricity crisis, protesters closed the coastal road in front of the West Tripoli power plant in the Janzour area on Sunday to protest the frequent power outages.

The protesters blocked the road in the direction leading from Tripoli to the city of Zawiya, while video clips shared by citizens showed heavy traffic congestion and disrupted travel between the capital and cities along the western coast.
