Major General Ahmed Abu Kraa, head of the Public Relations and Media Office at the Judicial Police Agency, called on the Ministry of the Interior and the Agency for Combating Illegal Immigration to transfer migrants sentenced to deportation from correctional facilities to shelter centers immediately upon the issuance of court rulings against them, emphasizing that their continued detention in prisons does not fall within the agency’s jurisdiction.

In a statement to Alwasat on Saturday, Abu Kraa said that the Judicial Police is responsible for managing correctional facilities and enforcing criminal sentences, and is not the authority in charge of immigration matters, noting that large numbers of migrants remain in prisons despite deportation orders having been issued against them.

Handover of 143 Female Inmates

The official’s remarks coincided with the handover of 143 female inmates of foreign nationalities from the Women’s Corrections and Rehabilitation Institution to the Agency for Combating Illegal Immigration, to complete the legal and administrative procedures for their deportation, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Abu Kraa explained that the handover was carried out in coordination between the Reform and Rehabilitation Institution, represented by the head of the Tripoli Judicial Police Branch, and the Agency for Combating Illegal Immigration, under the supervision of the Inspectorate of Reform and Rehabilitation Institutions at the Office of the Attorney General, as well as the Inspectorate at the Office of the Tripoli Public Prosecutor.

He emphasized that the procedures aim to complete the inmates’ case files and take the necessary legal measures regarding them, noting that the handover was carried out in accordance with approved legal frameworks, while observing humanitarian and regulatory standards, and within the framework of cooperation between the relevant security and judicial authorities.
