The Agency for Combating Illegal Immigration launched a large-scale security operation in the southern region to track down illegal migration routes and human trafficking networks, as part of a plan aimed at strengthening border security and tightening control over desert roads and routes bordering neighboring countries.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the agency explained that the operation is part of a strategy aimed at drying up the sources of illegal migration. The Desert Patrols Directorate, in coordination with the Southern Region Branch Force, has begun carrying out joint field security operations deep within southern Libya.

It added that the task force, under the direct supervision of Major General Ezzedine Boucha, director of the Desert Patrols Directorate, set out on the morning of Monday, July 20, 2026, toward the city of Umm al-Arnab and southwestern regions to carry out extensive sweep operations aimed at monitoring and tracking the movements of human trafficking and illegal migration networks, as well as monitoring any activities that may pose a threat to national security.

The Desert Patrols Directorate affirmed that the operation will continue until its objectives are achieved, through intensifying security deployments and strengthening surveillance of desert routes, thereby contributing to the protection of borders, the preservation of national sovereignty, and the consolidation of security and stability, and reflecting the agency’s readiness to carry out its missions under various field conditions.
