German Delegation Assesses Needs for Developing Coastal Security Management Capabilities in Tripoli

Major General Al-Bashir Balnour Suleiman, Director of the General Directorate of Coastal Security, briefed an official delegation from Germany on the Directorate’s operational development needs and requirements, including technical and training support for maritime personnel, as well as the maintenance and equipping of boats and landing sites, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation and develop the Directorate’s maritime and security capabilities.

Major General Al-Bashir Balnour received the German delegation at the Port of Tripoli, where he accompanied them on an inspection tour of the maritime operations offices. During the tour, the delegation gained a firsthand look at the workflow and the monitoring and surveillance mechanisms used to protect and secure the Libyan coastline, according to a post by the General Directorate of Coastal Security on its Facebook page.

Needs of the Coast Guard

Balnour held a meeting with the German delegation during which they discussed ways to strengthen mutual support and the operational requirements of the General Directorate of Coast Guard to enhance its performance. The talks focused on capacity building, training, maintenance and equipping of patrol boats, and the preparation of landing sites.

The meeting reviewed current and future support programs provided by the German side in the field of training and qualifying maritime personnel to enhance their logistical and technical readiness, in addition to assessing the actual technical and logistical needs of the patrol boats to ensure the continuity of their operations during maritime patrols with full effectiveness.

Needs of Landing Points

Balnour also briefed the German delegation on all the requirements and equipment needed by the landing points under the General Directorate of Coastal Security to facilitate monitoring, rescue, and the fight against illegal activities.

At the conclusion of the visit, Balnour praised the ongoing support provided by the German side, emphasizing the importance of this joint cooperation in strengthening maritime security and building national capabilities capable of addressing various challenges in territorial waters.
