Representatives of the General Command on the 4+4 mini-dialogue committee briefed Marshal Khalifa Haftar on Monday regarding the committee’s progress, ahead of its upcoming meeting under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. Upcoming Agreement to Revive the Electoral Process

The 4+4 Joint Committee is preparing to adopt a new electoral agreement aimed at reviving the electoral process in Libya, as its final meeting, scheduled for next Tuesday, approaches. This is part of efforts sponsored by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to overcome the political deadlock that has persisted since the December 2021 elections stalled.

On Saturday, committee member Abduljalil al-Shawish told Alwasat that the drafting committee is currently working on preparing the final version of the agreement, paving the way for its adoption during the upcoming meeting that will finalize the document’s wording.

Haftar Praises Military Leadership Meeting in Sirte

During the meeting, Haftar also praised the gathering held in Sirte and the progress made there toward unifying the military, stressing the importance of continuing these efforts to strengthen military unity and serve the national interest.

A meeting was held in Sirte on Sunday, bringing together the Chief of the General Staff of the Government of National Unity, Lieutenant General Salah al-Namroush; the Chief of Staff of the General Command, Lieutenant General Khalid Haftar; members of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee; members of the 3+3 Joint Military Committee, a number of military leaders from both sides, and the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury.

During the meeting, the participants agreed to organize a joint tactical exercise involving members of the Libyan Army in one of the southern regions, as well as to authorize the chiefs of the various military branches to hold monthly meetings with their respective departments, thereby contributing to the development of institutional performance and the strengthening of coordination and joint action, a step that was welcomed by the General Command, the UN Mission, and the Presidential Council.
