Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed on Sunday his country’s unwavering stance in support of Libya’s unity and stability, stressing the importance of preserving Libya’s territorial integrity, unifying its national institutions, and reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a purely Libyan-led process that paves the way for presidential and parliamentary elections.
This came during a phone call between Abdelatty and the Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, which addressed regional developments, foremost among them the latest situation in Libya, as well as in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to an announcement on the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official Facebook page.
Developments in Sudan and the Congo
The two sides discussed developments in Sudan, where the Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for Sudan’s security, stability, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions, stressing the importance of respecting its sovereignty and engaging in a political process under full Sudanese ownership that leads to a comprehensive settlement fulfilling the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development.
Regarding the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full support for regional and international mediation efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement that would bring stability to the Great Lakes region, stressing the importance of adopting an integrated approach that links the establishment of peace and the restoration of stability with reconstruction efforts and sustainable development.
For his part, Boulos praised the pivotal role Egypt plays in supporting regional security and stability, commending its efforts to promote political solutions and resolve crises in Africa and the Middle East, and affirming the U.S. administration’s commitment to continuing coordination and consultation with Egypt on various issues of mutual interest.
