The commander of the General Command, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received the UK Defence Senior Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa, Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, at his office at the command headquarters in Benghazi on Monday, in the presence of the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, and the Military Attaché, Matt Ketterer, as well as their accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Commander of the General Command Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Marshal Haftar emphasized the depth of relations between Libya and the United Kingdom, as well as the importance of developing them and strengthening prospects for joint cooperation in various fields to serve the interests of both countries, according to a post by the General Command on its Facebook page.
The General Command stated that the meeting addressed the latest developments on the domestic and international fronts, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest, and emphasized the importance of supporting efforts aimed at strengthening stability and preserving the country’s unity and sovereignty.
It added that the British ambassador and the senior advisor to the British Ministry of Defense, for their part, “expressed their great appreciation for the role of the armed forces in consolidating security and stability in Libya, and the impact this has on the security and stability of the region in general, affirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the General Command in a manner that serves the path to stability and supports development efforts in Libya.”
