250 families displaced from four residential neighborhoods in Ghat due to heavy rains

The Red Crescent Society’s Ghat branch announced on Thursday, that approximately 250 families had been displaced from their homes in four residential neighborhoods in the southwestern city due to heavy rains that fell in the area on Wednesday evening.

It identified the neighborhoods as Al-Ghalaba, Khamsin, Al-Shirkah Al-Siniyah, and Iskan Wajza.

The society noted that the Director of Security in Ghat had arrived at the Tahala municipality to assess the situation there, while volunteers conducted an inspection tour to assess the overall situation in the area.

Heightened Readiness and Preparedness at Hospitals in Ghat and Tahala

The Supreme Emergency Committee at the Ministry of Health in the government appointed by the House of Representatives announced that it has raised the level of readiness and preparedness at hospitals in Ghat, Tahala, and surrounding areas in anticipation of any emergencies amid the current weather fluctuations.

The committee called on citizens to exercise caution, stay away from flood channels and valleys, and adhere to safety instructions to ensure their safety, according to a statement carried by the Libyan News Agency “Wal” earlier today, Thursday.

Heavy rains in southwestern regions

Southwestern regions have been hit by a wave of heavy rains since Wednesday evening, affecting Ghat and its surrounding areas, Al-Awainat, Al-Barkat, Murzuq, Obari, and some border areas with Algeria, as well as Ghadames and Al-Hamada.
