Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi affirmed Libya’s pride in its African identity, noting its pioneering role in the founding of the African Union through the 1999 Sirte Declaration.

Al-Menfi wrote on his X account: “On Africa Day, which marks the anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963, we reaffirm Libya’s pride in its African identity and its unwavering commitment to strengthening cooperation and integration among the continent’s nations for the sake of peace and development.”

He added that the declaration “constituted a pivotal building block on the path toward an integrated institutional union among the countries of the continent, which has been praised today for its role in supporting the national reconciliation project and the Libyan political process leading to national elections.”
