Libyan-Sudanese Talks on Arrangements for the Voluntary Return of Migrants

Last Tuesday, the head of the Agency for Combating Illegal Migration, Major General Salah Al-Khafifi, discussed with the Sudanese Consul General in Benghazi, Ambassador Abdulrahman Mohammed Rahmatullah, the mechanisms for implementing voluntary return programs and the deportation of Sudanese nationals currently in detention centers.

The two sides discussed the operational arrangements for deportation operations and the associated administrative and security measures, as well as the humanitarian aspects related to the safety of returnees during the implementation of these procedures.

Al-Khafifi said in a statement to Alwasat on Sunday that the meeting, held at the Greater Benghazi Shelter Center, addressed plans to expedite voluntary return procedures and mechanisms for joint coordination between Libyan authorities and the Sudanese diplomatic mission, ensuring a “safe and orderly return” of the deportees to their country.

This comes at a time when Libya is witnessing ongoing efforts to reorganize the issue of illegal migration, amid increasing coordination between security agencies and the diplomatic missions of the countries to which the migrants belong.
