An official ceremony was held in the city of Sebha to mark the reopening of Sebha International Airport following the completion of its construction and outfitting under the supervision of the National Development Authority.
The ceremony took place on Saturday evening coinciding with the twelfth anniversary of the Operation Dignity, as part of development and reconstruction projects in southern Libya.
Flights Resume After Two-Week Hiatus
The airport’s airspace reopened last Sunday following a hiatus of about two weeks. Flights resumed after the completion of maintenance work on the main runway and the aircraft parking area.
Project officials stated that the development was completed using modern equipment and advanced standards, with the aim of strengthening the air transport sector and connecting southern cities with the rest of the country, thereby contributing to improved services and supporting economic activity in the region.
Infrastructure projects and facility rehabilitation
The airport’s opening is part of a series of development projects underway in southern cities, overseen by the National Development Authority, in line with the Authority’s announcement that it seeks to develop infrastructure and rehabilitate vital facilities.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Agency’s Director General, Mahmoud Al-Farjani, along with representatives of the General Command forces, members of the House of Representatives, a number of municipal mayors, representatives of local airlines, and a number of dignitaries and sheikhs from various regions of the south.
