Major General Ahmed Abukraa, Director of Public Relations and Media for the Judicial Police, announced the release of 121 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation facilities, in accordance with a decision by the Supreme Judicial Council following the receipt of lists of those eligible for amnesty from the Central Inmate Affairs Unit in Tripoli.
Abukraa explained, in a statement to Alwasat that the institutions are continuing to release inmates who meet the legal conditions and requirements, in coordination with the Office of the Attorney General and the offices of public prosecutors in various judicial districts.
The Supreme Judicial Council issued Decision No. (7) of 2026, which stipulated the release of prisoners who had served half of their sentences as of March 31.
Release of 2,000 Inmates in Recent Period
In a related context, Abukraa explained that the number of inmates released from correctional and rehabilitation institutions across the country reached approximately 2,000 or more during the recent period, noting that the majority of cases involved cases where the defendants had pleaded guilty and had served long prison terms exceeding ten years.
He emphasized that the administrations of correctional and rehabilitation institutions continue to implement judicial decisions “with professionalism and discipline,” in a manner that upholds justice and protects rights in accordance with applicable legal frameworks.
