466 migrants to be deported from Brak Al-Shati to Nigeria

The shelter for irregular migrants in the municipality of Brak Al-Shati plans to deport 466 migrants from Nigeria.

Abdulhadi Al-Huweij, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, reviewed the procedures and arrangements for the deportation of the migrants, in coordination with the relevant authorities and in accordance with applicable legal and administrative regulations, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday.

Al-Huweij inspected the shelter, accompanied by the municipality’s mayor, Amer Ashhoub, the head of the Irregular Migration Control Unit, Colonel Ahmed Al-Hadi, and his accompanying delegation, as part of efforts to monitor humanitarian and organizational conditions within the shelters.

Deportation of Migrants in Accordance with Libyan Laws and International Agreements

The minister stated that it is essential for the deportation process to take place “within a framework of full respect for humanitarian and legal standards, in a manner that safeguards the dignity of migrants and ensures their rights, in accordance with national laws, customs, and international conventions.”

Al-Huweij called for enhanced coordination among the various relevant authorities to ensure that procedures are implemented efficiently and responsibly, reflecting Libya’s commitment to the humanitarian aspect of migration issues.
