The Ministry of the Interior for the Government of National Unity (GNU) continued on Monday to repatriate displaced Sudanese nationals to their home country via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.

The ministry stated in a post on its official Facebook page that “this operation was carried out in response to a request from the Sudanese government and the wishes of the displaced persons, and a specialized committee was formed to oversee its implementation in accordance with the legal framework.”

Safe and Orderly Return for Displaced Persons

It added that the flight was carried out via Mitiga International Airport after completing the necessary procedures and in coordination with the Sudanese Embassy, ensuring a safe and orderly return for the displaced persons.

Last Monday, Port Sudan Airport received 154 citizens arriving from Tripoli, as part of the first group under the voluntary return program for Sudanese abroad.

Libya is hosting more than half a million Sudanese nationals who have fled the war raging between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since 2023, which has caused the displacement and flight of millions of Sudanese abroad.
