The Libyan Red Crescent announced on Saturday that it had rescued 45 migrants of various nationalities who were aboard a boat used for illegal migration off the coast of Tobruk.

In a statement, the organization said its branch in Tobruk received a report from the Coast Guard indicating that the migrants were exhausted by the waves, fear, and hunger after a dangerous journey that nearly ended in a new humanitarian disaster.

Following this, Red Crescent teams moved to the reported location, rescued the migrants, and provided them with humanitarian aid, first aid, and necessary care.

The statement noted that the rescue operation was part of a partnership project with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
