Al-Tamimi and Koury exchange views on political and security developments in Libya

The Secretary-General of the General Command, Lieutenant General Khairi Al-Tamimi, exchanged views with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Koury, on the latest security and political developments, including the deliberations of yesterday’s meeting of the Security Working Group established under the Berlin Process and the members of the security track of the Structured Dialogue.

During their meeting on Wednesday in Benghazi, Al-Tamimi and Koury emphasized the need to unify Libyan institutions, including military and security ones, to achieve greater stability and national unity, as well as the importance of holding general elections.

They also discussed the importance of international support to bolster these efforts, according to a post by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya on its Facebook page.

Al-Tamimi and Koury participated on Tuesday, in a meeting of the Security Working Group, which is part of the International Follow-up Committee for the Berlin Process, with members of the security track of the Structured Dialogue and members of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission. The meeting was held in Benghazi in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Hanna Tetteh.

The meeting was attended by ambassadors and representatives from Spain, Italy, Turkey, Russia, China, France, Egypt, the African Union, and the European Union.

Representatives from Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, the United States, Tunisia, the League of Arab States, Switzerland, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands also participated via video conference.
