Abdulhamid Dabaiba, head of the Government of National Unity, instructed the relevant authorities to open an investigation into a shipment of cocaine seized by Spanish authorities aboard a ship that was en route to a Libyan port. The directive included contacting the Attorney General, the acting head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Director General of Customs, and the Director of Interpol to begin communicating with the authorities in Spain and gathering the necessary information regarding the incident.

The Spanish Civil Guard had previously announced the seizure of a massive shipment of cocaine aboard a cargo ship in the Atlantic Ocean, in an operation described as one of the largest in the country’s history and on an international scale.

Spanish authorities reported that the seized quantity is estimated to be between 30,000 and 45,000 kilograms, after the vessel was intercepted in international waters off the Canary Islands, according to the BBC.

They explained that the ship was carrying 20 people who were arrested, noting that the cargo hold was filled with packages of drugs, while the ship is currently undergoing inspection in the Canary Islands, having set sail from Freetown.
