Taher Al-Baour, the acting head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Government of National Unity, held discussions with Jeremy Brendt, the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, regarding developments in the political situation in Libya and the role of the UN mission, in addition to addressing the current international situation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stated on its Facebook page that the meeting also focused on discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the fields of energy, infrastructure, education, and training, as well as the exchange of expertise. It noted that at the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing political consultations to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
Brendt’s Meeting with Dabaiba
Brendt met today in Tripoli with the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, and attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the National Oil Corporation and the U.S. energy company Chevron aimed at conducting a joint study to assess unconventional resources, primarily shale oil and gas, in a number of Libyan sedimentary basins.
During their meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister in Tripoli, Dabaiba and Brendt discussed the latest economic developments and ways to support financial stability, as well as strengthening joint cooperation in the energy sector and the importance of building on existing economic understandings, thereby supporting the path to stability and opening broader horizons for sustainable development across the country.
Expanding the Partnership Between Libya and the United States
Dabaiba emphasized the importance of continued U.S. support for Libyan institutions, particularly in the oil sector, as the cornerstone of the national economy, noting the need to expand partnerships with major U.S. companies to support production development, transfer expertise, and strengthen expansion and investment plans.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dabaiba discussed with a delegation from the U.S. energy company Chevron its operations in Libya’s oil and gas sector and ways to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector. This came after the company signed a second memorandum of understanding with the National Oil Corporation.
