Menfi and Greek Foreign Minister Gerapetritis Affirm the Implementation of the Joint Institutional Frameworks Between the Two Countries

The head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Girapetritis affirmed the activation of the joint institutional frameworks between the two countries, including the revival of the Joint Committee and the continuation of the work of the technical committee tasked with demarcating the maritime borders between the two countries.

This came during their meeting at the Presidential Council headquarters in Tripoli on Monday, in the presence of the delegation accompanying the Greek Foreign Minister, according to the Presidential Council's media office.

Key topics of the meeting between Menfi and the Greek Foreign Minister

The media office stated that the meeting addressed a range of issues related to political and economic developments in Libya, the importance of strengthening economic cooperation and supporting the role of Greek companies in the reconstruction process within Libya, as well as exploring ways to develop and expand bilateral cooperation in various fields, within the framework of the historical ties between the two countries and good neighborly relations, in a manner that achieves common interests, security, and stability in the Mediterranean basin on the basis of mutual respect.

The Media Office added that both sides emphasized the need to create an attractive investment environment, expand areas of economic cooperation between the two countries, and intensify coordination and the exchange of views, thereby contributing to supporting security and stability and promoting peaceful approaches to crises to consolidate the principles of dialogue, good neighborliness, and regional cooperation.

Activating Institutional Frameworks Between Libya and Greece

The media office added that “the meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of maintaining channels of communication, activating joint institutional frameworks—most notably the revival of the Joint Committee—and continuing the work of the bilateral committee for the demarcation of maritime borders between the two countries, reflecting the political will to elevate Libyan-Greek relations to more advanced and integrated levels.” .

Prior to his meeting with Menfi, Girapetritis held a press conference with Taher Al-Baour, the acting head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, following their joint meeting and the Greek minister’s meeting with Abdulhamid Dabaiba, head of the Government of National Unity.
