Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Chief of the General Staff of the General Command, and Major General Yousef Al-Huneiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, signed a joint cooperation agreement in the security and military fields. This came at the conclusion of their meeting on Sunday at the headquarters of the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces in Amman, following joint talks attended by a number of military leaders from both sides.
Content of the Security and Military Cooperation Agreement
The General Staff of the General Command stated on its Facebook page that the signing of the agreement comes “within the framework of strengthening cooperation in security and military fields and opening broader horizons for joint coordination, thereby enhancing efforts to support regional stability.”
The General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces added in a statement carried by Jordan's Petra News Agency that the agreement “aims to strengthen bilateral coordination, expand areas of military training, and exchange expertise and knowledge, within the cooperation programs implemented by the Jordanian Armed Forces with a number of sister and friendly armies.”
Talks Between Khaled Haftar and the Jordanian Chief of Staff
Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar and Major General Al-Huneiti held a meeting during which the two sides discussed ways to enhance joint military cooperation and coordination, and exchange expertise in the areas of training and capacity development, thereby contributing to raising the efficiency of the armed forces in the two brotherly countries.
During the meeting, Haftar and Al-Huneiti also “listened to briefings covering the main pillars of the modernization and development program of the Jordanian Armed Forces, as well as a review of the most significant challenges posed by the regional environment,” according to the Petra News Agency.
Haftar praised the warm reception and the level of cooperation between the two sides, emphasizing the depth of the historical ties between Libya and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He noted the importance of strengthening joint military and security cooperation between the two countries to address current regional challenges, as well as coordinating the implementation of joint tactical exercises.
Strengthening Military Cooperation
Major General Al-Huneiti emphasized the importance of strengthening joint military cooperation to serve strategic interests and contribute to supporting security and stability at the regional level, praising the role of Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar in restructuring and rebuilding the Libyan Armed Forces in accordance with the latest military methods and capabilities.
The meeting was attended by a number of senior officers of the Jordanian Armed Forces and the Libyan military attaché in Amman.
Haftar had arrived at the headquarters of the Jordanian Armed Forces General Command earlier on Sunday, where he was received by Al-Huneiti and a number of military leaders during an official welcoming ceremony that included a review of the honor guard, which lined up to salute him.
