On Saturday, the Libyan Red Crescent Society—Zawiya Branch—carried out a tree-planting campaign as part of the “Gharsa” project, which involved planting 1,077 pine trees at the University of Zawiya’s South Campus, with the support and in partnership with the “Rihla” Organization for Sustainable Development.
In a post on its Facebook page, the society stated that this initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental work and community service.
A fixed drip irrigation system was also installed to ensure the sustainability and preservation of these trees, in a move that reflects a commitment to supporting the environment and contributing to the improvement of the natural landscape on campus.
Dabaiba Plants a Tree on Souq al-Thulatha Road
Last February, the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, planted the first tree on Souq al-Thulatha Road in Tripoli, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the February 17 Revolution, marking the launch of a new phase of the “Green Libya” initiative, which aims to plant 1,000 trees to combat desertification and support vegetation cover.
Dabaiba said on his Facebook page that commemorating February 17 “is not just about words, but about action,” noting that planting the tree marks the beginning of the implementation of the initiative’s new phase.
