Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi met on Monday, in the capital Tripoli with a number of prominent figures from the city of Misrata, as part of ongoing “consultations aimed at strengthening national consensus and supporting efforts toward a political settlement in the country,” according to Menfi’s media office.
The media office stated that the meeting addressed the latest political and economic developments in Libya, during which the most pressing current challenges were discussed, along with ways to support national initiatives capable of advancing the political process to more advanced stages, thereby paving the way for the successful completion of the electoral process.
The statement quoted Misrata dignitaries as affirming, during the meeting, “their support for the steps taken by the head of the Presidential Council to strengthen national consensus, and their backing for all initiatives aimed at building a civil state, consolidating its institutions, and fulfilling Libyans’ aspirations for security, stability, and development.”
Menfi’s series of meetings
The meeting is part of a series of consultations Menfi is holding with political and social groups, at a time when the country is witnessing political and economic activity regarding the resolution of pending issues.
It is worth noting that on February 16, Menfi issued Decree No. (4) of 2026 regarding the formation of an economic advisory committee to assess the current economic situation, chaired by Al-Tahir Al-Hadi Al-Juhimi. On April 6, he received the committee’s first reports on economic conditions in preparation for taking urgent measures regarding the national economy.
On April 12, Menfi also called for the formation of a supreme national committee to monitor oil and gas contracts, and for the establishment of a unified sovereign body to oversee the Central Bank, the Audit Bureau, and the Administrative Control Authority.
