The Emergency Medical Center announced that its response teams had recovered 17 bodies of migrants off the coast of Zuwara.
One of the bodies was transported to Tripoli, after the deceased was identified as a migrant from Bangladesh, and his family received the body.
The center added in a statement on Saturday that 14 bodies were buried in accordance with legal procedures, while efforts continue to complete the remaining procedures related to two other cases.
The center confirmed that field operations are underway to recover the bodies of irregular migrants from the beaches of Zuwara and neighboring areas, as migration incidents in the Mediterranean continue.
Migrant drownings continue
These operations are part of the field response carried out by the Emergency Medical Center in dealing with irregular migration incidents, which recur along the Libyan coast, particularly in western regions, as a result of attempts to cross to Europe.
On April 3, the International Organization for Migration reported that 683 migrants have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean since the beginning of 2026, while 6,175 migrants have reached the Italian coast during the same period.
