On Thursday, Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi received an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled to take place next October.
The invitation was delivered by Russian Ambassador to Libya Aydar Aganin during his meeting with Menfi at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli, according to a statement from the media office of the President of the Presidential Council.
According to the statement, the meeting included a review of the overall political, economic, and security developments in Libya, as well as a discussion of prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, in a manner that serves mutual interests and enhances opportunities for stability and development.
The Third Russia-Africa Summit
The Third Russia-Africa Summit is scheduled to take place in Moscow on October 28 and 29, 2026, with the aim of signing new agreements for the 2026–2029 period, following confirmation of African leaders’ participation to support economic, security, and technological cooperation, according to Russian media.
The First Russia-Africa Summit was held in October 2019 in Sochi, while the Second Summit took place in July 2023 in St. Petersburg.
