The Norwegian Refugee Council announced the rehabilitation of a water pumping station in the Kuwayfiyah area, in collaboration with the General Company for Water and Wastewater and local authorities, thereby helping to improve water supplies for more than 5,000 residents after years of disruption.
A statement from the Council, posted on its website, explained that the project began with a comprehensive assessment of the station’s condition, following repeated complaints from residents about prolonged water outages and their forced reliance on costly and unreliable alternative sources. The assessment revealed that only one pump was operating at half capacity, depriving a large number of families of a regular water supply.

The statement added that the work teams installed two new pumps, in addition to repairing and cleaning the water tanks and upgrading the station’s facilities to ensure safer and more stable operation, which directly improved the regularity of water delivery to homes and enabled families to better meet their daily needs.
It noted that the rehabilitation work was completed in November 2025 and contributed to an immediate improvement in service levels, as families regained a regular running water supply for the first time in years, helping them organize their daily lives.
The statement confirmed that the General Company for Water and Wastewater will operate and maintain the station to ensure the sustainability of the project, which was implemented with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the German development bank KfW.
