Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi and members of the High State Council emphasized the need to move forward with the political process within its established frameworks, particularly the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat, Morocco, in December 2018.

Menfi received members of the High Council of State—Nizar Kaawan, Abu al-Qasim Qazit, Al-Naji Mukhtar, Abd al-Salam al-Safrani, and Safwan al-Masuri—at the Presidential Council headquarters in Tripoli on Wednesday, as part of a series of meetings he is holding with various political, social, security, and military figures.

Moving Forward with the Political Process

The  Presidential Council's media office stated: “The meeting emphasized the importance of moving forward with the political process toward holding elections, through adherence to the constitutional frameworks and systems governing Libya, particularly the provisions of the Libyan Political Agreement, in a manner that ensures stability and fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people.”

It added that the meeting “reviewed the political, security, and economic conditions in the country, the role played by the committee formed by the Presidential Council in monitoring and auditing contracts in the oil and electricity sectors, and the allegations of corruption that have been raised, which must be addressed in accordance with legal and regulatory frameworks,” as part of following up on current political developments.

Menfi’s Meetings

Since last week, Menfi has been holding separate meetings with security and military leaders, as well as representatives from Tripoli and the western regions, to discuss developments related to the political, economic, financial, security, and military situations.
