On Monday, Presidential Council leader Mohamed al-Manfi discussed with representatives of the “Berlin Process Group” on Libya and countries involved in the Libyan issue ways to advance the political process in the country and strengthen prospects for stability, during an expanded political meeting held at the “Crown Prince’s Palace” in Tripoli.
The meeting was attended by Abdul Salam Zoubi, Deputy Minister of Defense in the Government of National Unity, along with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Libya, Hannah Tetteh, and a number of accredited ambassadors.
The attendees discussed the latest political, security, and economic developments in the country, and exchanged views on ways to advance the political process in a manner that enhances the prospects for stability and leads to the conclusion of the transitional phases, according to the Menfi's media office.
The meeting included ambassadors from Algeria, Egypt, Italy, Russia, Turkey, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, China, and Tunisia, where the importance of continuing international coordination to support efforts toward a political settlement in Libya was emphasized.
During the meeting, Menfi stressed the importance of continuing consultations with international partners within the framework of the Berlin Process outcomes, in a manner that supports national efforts to unify state institutions and create the appropriate conditions for holding national elections, in response to the Libyan people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development.
The participants also stressed the need to intensify international support for the Libyan political process and to strengthen the role of the United Nations in accompanying Libyans toward a sustainable political settlement that preserves Libya’s sovereignty and the unity of its institutions.
