Ministry of Water Resources Confirms That the Conditions of Dams and Valleys in the Western Region Are Stable

Salem al-Sharif, Director of the Dams Department at the Ministry of Water Resources in the Government of National Unity, confirmed that the situation at dams and in valleys in the western region remains stable and that no flooding or water runoff has been reported as a result of the heavy rains the region is experiencing on Monday.

The ministry quoted al-Sharif on its Facebook page as confirming that “the situation at dams and open valleys in the western region remains stable as of 1:00 p.m. today, Monday, March 16, 2026.”

Al-Sharif noted that no flooding or water flows had been recorded in the tributaries feeding the dam lakes, despite wind activity in the region and the absence of rainfall at the time this report on the status of dams and open valleys in the western region was prepared.

Status of Wadi Al-Majanin Dam

Al-Sharif explained that Wadi Al-Maianin Dam recorded a stored water volume of 1.41 million cubic meters, out of a total storage capacity of 58 million cubic meters, with no inflow from the dam’s tributaries recorded so far.

He added that the field inspections and assessments conducted over the past hour indicated that the situation is stable, with technical monitoring teams continuing to monitor the dam’s condition around the clock.

Status of the Wadi Gan and Wadi Zart Dams

Regarding the status of the Wadi Gan Dam, al-Sharif stated that the amount of stored water reached 2,666,000 cubic meters, out of a total storage capacity of 30 million cubic meters, with no flooding observed in the valley during this hour, while technical teams continue to monitor the dam’s condition continuously.

As for the Wadi Zart Dam, the Director of the Dams Department reported that the current situation is dry and there is no water inside the dam’s reservoir, noting that the dam’s total storage capacity is 8.6 million cubic meters.

Inspection of Wadi Al-Barghouthba and Wadi Al-Kharouq

As part of the monitoring of open valleys, Al-Sharif explained that specialized teams inspected the Wadi Al-Barghouthba and Wadi Al-Kharouq valleys, and no flooding or water flow was observed as of the time this update was prepared.

He added that weather conditions in the region are characterized by strong winds with no rainfall currently recorded, noting that monitoring teams are currently stationed in the upper catchment area to continue monitoring operations.
