The Imam Malik Competition for Memorization of the Holy Quran and Sunnah began its ninth session today, Saturday, in the city of Sirte, with the participation of 200 contestants. The competition will last for three days and will be held at the Qarnada and Al-Atiq mosques for male contestants and the Mahalla mosque for female contestants.

The competition is supervised by the Office of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in Sirte, the municipality, and the Central Region Projects Department of the Administrative Centers Development and Development Agency.

Parents support their children who are competing

The opening ceremony of the competition was attended by the director of the office, Sheikh Jihad Amgawi, the head of the Quranic Affairs Department at the office, Sheikh Ali Abu Shaifa, a number of imams, preachers, and supervisors of Quran memorization centers, as well as a number of citizens and parents of the competitors.

Different levels of Quran memorization and scientific texts

Abu Shaifa said that 200 contestants of different ages are participating in the competition, adding: “The competition includes memorizing the entire Holy Quran, half of it, a quarter of it, and five parts.”

He added: “The second part concerns the Sunnah of the Prophet and includes three levels of the scientific texts series, in addition to the public speaking section and the young muezzin section.”

The head of the competition's judging panel, Sheikh Abu al-Qasim Aghani, said that this competition is “a good opportunity to see some of the fruits of the centers for memorizing the Book of Allah, which are spread throughout various locations in Sirte, from our students who have distinguished themselves and excelled in these centers.”
