A report in the Chadian newspaper stated that joint border protection operations between Libya and Chad will begin soon, following an official meeting held on February 21, 2026, at Point 35, chaired by the commander of the Libyan Southern Military Region, Major General Mabrouk Sabhan, and attended by the Libyan commander of the joint force, Brigadier General Abdel Fattah Bouzian, along with military officials from the Chadian side, as part of efforts to strengthen security coordination between the two countries.

According to a report in the Chadian newspaper Al-Wahda on Sunday, the meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen military cooperation between Libya and Chad in the field of border security. Discussions focused on establishing a joint working mechanism to effectively coordinate field operations, ensuring a rapid response to security challenges.

Agreement on joint measures

The newspaper added that, following the discussions, the two sides agreed on a set of operational measures to mark the start of joint tasks aimed at securing and protecting the borders, combating cross-border threats, and ensuring the safety of the population in border areas.

For its part, the General Staff of the Land Forces of the General Command announced that it had reached an agreement with the Chadian Army on a joint mechanism to secure the southern border during a meeting held at Point 35 in the presence of military leaders from both sides. In a statement on its Facebook page, it explained that the meeting resulted in an agreement on organizational points for the joint working mechanism, followed by an official ceremony marking the start of the implementation of the tasks.

The General Staff confirmed that the visit concluded with the delegation's return to Libyan territory without any observations, in an atmosphere that reflected, according to the statement, the spirit of understanding and coordination between the two sides.

Formation of a joint force

It is noteworthy that on November 13, the War Media Division announced the formation of a joint force between the General Command and the Chadian army, within the framework of cooperation to secure the borders from gangs, bandits, and smugglers. On the 27th of the same month, an agreement was reached to intensify field coordination, develop information exchange, and strengthen security presence along the border strip.

The acceleration of the joint force's activation comes amid recurring security challenges, the latest of which was the attack that targeted the Tumo border post on January 31, before the General Command announced that it had taken control of the situation and expelled armed groups from the area.
