Early Saturday morning, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, head of Libya's Government of National Unity, gave an update on his health, saying he's "fine" and “still working,” in response to rumors that he had another health scare in less than a month, which led to him being admitted to a hospital in Milan, Italy.
Dabaiba said in a post on X: “News reached me, as it reached others, of a sickness that was said to have afflicted me. And in such moments, a person truly realizes how the news of illness or death is not mere material for discussion, but a sincere reminder of the value of life, its brevity, and its fragility before the Will of Allah.”
He added: “I assure you that I am well, by the grace of God. I confirm that the treatment I received inside Libya was successful and reassuring, and that the experience at the Heart Hospital in Misrata has practically demonstrated the effectiveness of the path of localizing treatment within the country, through national competencies and medical capabilities that we take pride in.”
Dabaiba was admitted to the Heart Hospital in Misrata last January after suffering a health setback that “required a successful medical procedure,” according to a statement that did not specify the nature of the procedure.
Dabaiba responds to questions about his trip abroad for medical treatment
Regarding questions about his trip abroad for medical treatment, Dabaiba said: “As for what has been raised about my travel, the whole matter is simply that I underwent some additional medical check-ups for reassurance while I was outside the country for a pre-existing external commitment, in response to the concern of my loved ones. The results came back confirming the effectiveness of the treatment I received inside Libya, and praise be to Allah.”
He added: "Illness is predestined, death is inevitable, and both are solely in the Hand of Allah alone. Neither is summoned by a rumor, nor postponed by a news report. And as we are in the month of Ramadan—the month of mercy, forgiveness, and self-accountability—I call upon everyone to seize what truly benefits, to fill our time with obedience, righteous deeds, and good words. For every word is a trust, and Ramadan is an opportunity to purify hearts, not to burden them."
He concluded his post by thanking “everyone who asked and checked in with genuine, sincere care. And I entrust you all to Allah, whose deposits are never lost. And the work continues… as long as there is still breath in life, and a heartbeat in the heart for this homeland.”
