The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Fathy Khalifa, arrived in Benghazi on Thursday, where he was received by the Chief of Staff of the General Command, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar.
The Egyptian Chief of Staff's visit to Benghazi is to participate in the first strategic security conference for chiefs of staff of Mediterranean and sub-Saharan countries, organized by the General Command and held at the Marshal Khalifa Haftar Military City.
Prior to the arrival of the Egyptian chief of staff, Haftar received earlier today the deputy chief of staff of the French armed forces and commander of French forces in the Mediterranean, Admiral Christophe Lucas, who arrived in Benghazi to participate in the same conference.
Strategic Security Conference in Benghazi
The Strategic Security Conference for Chiefs of Staff of the Mediterranean Basin and Sub-Saharan Africa kicked off on Tuesday in Benghazi under the slogan “Joint Cooperation to Combat Cross-Border Crime,” organized by the General Staff of the General Command.
Military leaders and security experts from several African and European countries are participating in the conference, which is discussing mechanisms for strengthening military and security cooperation, information exchange, and coordination in confronting cross-border threats, including organized crime, smuggling networks, and cyber challenges.
