The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, called on the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) to work together to support stability and strengthen the readiness of regular military institutions in Libya.

This came during his meeting on Wednesday with AFRICOM Deputy Commander, Lieutenant General John W. Brennan, in the presence of the Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Brendt, according to the “Our Government” platform.

Military cooperation between Libya and the US

The platform said on its Facebook page that Dabaiba discussed with Brennan prospects for strengthening military and security cooperation between the two countries, developing training and qualification programs, and supporting efforts to unify the military institution, in addition to discussing joint coordination in the areas of information exchange and capacity building.

During the meeting, Dabaiba emphasized “the importance of partnership with the United States in supporting stability and strengthening the readiness of regular military institutions,” stressing “the need for cooperation to focus on transferring expertise and raising technical efficiency, in a manner that serves the sovereignty and security of the state.”

AFRICOM's readiness to cooperate with Libya

The platform added that the deputy commander of AFRICOM expressed his country's readiness to continue joint work with the Ministry of Defense and expand areas of technical and training support, thereby contributing to enhancing security and stability in Libya and the region.

The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense for Military Affairs, Abdul Salam Al-Zoubi, and the Director of Military Intelligence, Major General Mahmoud Hamza.
