The Deputy Commander of the General Command, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, received U.S. President Donald Trump's Senior Advisor on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, Massad Boulos, and the chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Brendt, and their accompanying delegation at his office at General Command headquarters in Benghazi on Sunday.
The General Command's media office said on its Facebook page that during the meeting, the two sides discussed “the latest political developments in Libya and the latest developments on the international and regional scenes, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, and support for international efforts aimed at achieving lasting stability.”
Boulos arrived in Benghazi earlier today from Tripoli, following his participation in the Libya Energy and Economic Summit, where he witnessed the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding and agreements in the energy sector between US companies and the National Oil Corporation.
During his speech at the summit on Saturday, Boulos announced the expansion of the partnership between the National Oil Corporation and the American company ConocoPhillips to unprecedented levels, stressing that American companies support Libya's ambitious goals of reaching a production of 3 million barrels of oil per day and bringing unique technologies and competencies to achieve this goal.
