The head of the Judicial Police in Tripoli, Major General Faraj Jumaa al-Mabrouk, was injured on Thursday when an unknown armed group opened fire in front of the Al-Jadida prison.

The Judicial Police condemned in a statement “in the strongest terms the shooting incident that targeted the head of the Judicial Police branch, Major General Faraj Jumaa Al-Mabrouk, by an unknown armed group in front of the Al-Jadida Reform and Rehabilitation Institution, which resulted in him being shot while leaving his workplace.”

The agency emphasized that “these criminal acts are a flagrant violation of the law and morality, a direct attack on the prestige of the state and its legitimate institutions, and a clear targeting of its men while they are performing their duties,” recalling “as a regulatory body affiliated with the Libyan state and the Ministry of Justice, operating within the framework of legal legitimacy as an official judicial institution.”

It also stressed that “at the same time, these desperate attempts will not undermine his determination or deter him from performing his national duties,” expressing “his strong condemnation of such practices that are outside the framework of the law and that have affected an official figure in the context of a legal administrative institution that is subject to the protection of the state and its authority.”

At the end of the statement, the Judicial Police announced that it would “continue to perform its duties with determination and responsibility and continue its work in maintaining security and order and enforcing the law, regardless of the challenges and the seriousness of the crimes it faces, in accordance with its national duty and legal responsibility.”
