On Sunday evening, Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi held an official reception at the Crown Prince's Palace in the capital, Tripoli, to mark the 74th anniversary of Libya's independence, a national occasion that embodied the meanings of sovereignty, unity, and pride in national identity, according to his media office.

The reception was attended by the second deputy head of the High Council of State, the heads of the Administrative Control Authority and the Audit Bureau, the Minister of Sports, the Minister of Local Government, the Minister of Oil, the Deputy Minister of Health, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with the heads and members of diplomatic missions accredited to Libya, the mayor of Tripoli, and a number of descendants of the founding fathers.

In his speech on the occasion, Menfi renewed the Libyan state's commitment to its people, friends, and partners in the international community, stressing that "Libya is moving forward, with the will of its people, towards building a unified, stable, and sovereign state that respects the rule of law, fulfills its obligations, and seeks to consolidate peace within its borders and with its regional and international surroundings ."

He emphasized that Independence Day “represents a renewed opportunity to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the founding fathers, strengthen the path of national reconciliation, and consolidate the values of citizenship and joint action for a secure and prosperous future for all citizens.”

Every year on December 24, Libya celebrates its independence, which was the culmination of the Libyan people's struggle since Italian colonists set foot on Libyan soil in 1911, continuing until independence was declared through a United Nations resolution issued in November 1949 granting independence.
