U.S. President Donald Trump urged Libyan leaders to end divisions and support the political process, welcoming steps taken to work toward unity and improve economic management in the interests of all Libyans.

This came in a congratulatory message sent to Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of Libya's independence, according to the media office of the Presidential Council.

The United States' vision for Libya

Trump emphasized that “the United States seeks a strong, stable, and prosperous Libya,” urging “leaders across Libya to engage to help end divisions, stop violence, and support a political path that brings Libyans together.”

Trump also emphasized that the United States “continues to encourage increased cooperation with American companies to create real economic opportunities that benefit our peoples.”

Trump welcomes improved economic management in Libya

Trump welcomed “the recent steps taken by Libyan leaders to work toward unity and improve economic management in the interests of all Libyans,” noting that “the United States continues to support efforts that promote peace and stability and contribute to building a better future for your country.”

In his message to Menfi, the U.S. President also offered “the warmest congratulations of the American people to the Libyan people on the occasion of your Independence Day on December 24.”

Affirming that “the United States seeks a strong, stable, and prosperous Libya,” urging “leaders across Libya to engage to help end divisions, stop violence, and support a political process that brings Libyans together.”
