Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, existing areas of cooperation, and the UK's role in supporting the political process in Libya with the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, according to a statement posted on Al-Lafi's Facebook page.
According to the statement, Al-Lafi stressed the importance of “the United Kingdom's role in supporting efforts to create a climate of consensus that contributes to overcoming the political deadlock and pushes towards a comprehensive political solution leading to inclusive national elections, with the participation of all Libyans, as the best way to end the division and unify state institutions.”
The member of the Presidential Council also stressed the importance of strengthening security and stability in Libya, pointing to its impact on the stability of the region as a whole, which, according to him, requires concerted international efforts and intensified effective support for the political process, in order to ensure a peaceful and lasting solution to the Libyan crisis.
Last week, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya launched the “structured dialogue,” which is one of the key pillars of the Libyan-led, UN-facilitated political process aimed at paving the way for national elections and unifying state institutions.
