Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi held a meeting on Wednesday with the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Mohamed al-Haddad, to “discuss the latest developments regarding the restructuring of the military,” as part of ongoing discussions on the upcoming measures in this regard.

The media office of the President of the Presidential Council said that Menfi and Al-Haddad stressed during the meeting “the importance of continuous coordination between the Supreme Commander and the Chief of Staff to implement orders and directives issued in accordance with the highest professional standards.”

This month, Menfi and Al-Haddad have held several meetings with military leaders affiliated with the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity regarding the upcoming restructuring of the military institution, on which decisions are expected to be issued in the coming days.

In preparation for the upcoming decisions regarding the restructuring of the military, the Presidential Council, the Government of National Unity, and the High Council of State announced the formation of the High Authority of Presidencies on November 20. According to the Presidential Council's media office, the High Authority of Presidencies is a "coordinating framework that constitutes the supreme sovereign authority" in the state.

According to the Presidential Council's media office, the High Authority of Presidencies aims to "develop a unified methodology for national decision-making, coordinate official positions on political, economic, and security issues, and work to formulate common policies that preserve Libya's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political, social, and economic stability without creating any additional entities or new structural burdens."
