The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy for the government appointed by the House of Representatives announced on Wednesday that a delegation from the German company Siemens AG visited a number of substations in the city of Benghazi on Tuesday to assess the needs of the grid.
The delegation, headed by the regional director of the German company, was accompanied by a number of department directors from the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the General Electricity Company of Libya.
The ministry said that the German delegation's tour “included the Al-Qawarsha station with a voltage of 30/11 kV, the Benghazi University station with a voltage of 30/11 kV, and the Al-Kish station with a voltage of 30/220/11 kV, where the delegation reviewed the technical needs of the electricity network and operational challenges.”
Assessing the Needs and Challenges of the Electricity Grid
The ministry confirmed that it is seeking to strengthen its technical cooperation with Siemens in order to accurately assess the grid's needs and provide high-quality technical offerings that will meet the requirements for modernizing Libya's electrical infrastructure. The ministry noted the commitment of the German company's delegation to supporting sustainable development efforts in the Libyan energy sector.
Siemens AG, a global leader in energy and infrastructure technology, is carrying out maintenance and major repairs of power stations in Libya under contracts with the General Electricity Company.
