Marshal Khalifa Haftar called on "the sheikhs and elders of Zawiya to play an active role in raising awareness among the city's residents about the gravity of the current situation, and to prioritize the interests of the nation," stressing that "Zawiya, with its influence, cannot remain outside the decision-making circle."

According to the General Command's media office, Haftar made this statement during his meeting with a delegation of sheikhs, dignitaries, and elders from Zawiya in Benghazi's "Marshal Khalifa Haftar's Military City" on Wednesday.

In attendance were the head of the government appointed by the House of Representatives, Osama Hammad, Chief of General Staff Khaled Haftar and Interior Minister Essam Abu Zriba.

The political crisis has weakened Libyan state institutions

Haftar pointed out that "the Libyan state is suffering from a political crisis that has weakened its institutions and reduced its ability to perform its duties toward its citizens," adding that "the solution will only be achieved through a national process decided by the people themselves, without external guardianship or interference."

Haftar emphasized that “the people are the masters and the source of authority, and no one else can decide their fate,” and that “the solidarity and unity of Libyans is the real guarantee for overcoming the critical phase the country is going through,” after praising the guest's patriotic stance.

The General Command's media office said that during the meeting, the sheikhs and dignitaries of Zawiya expressed their appreciation for the General Command and its efforts to promote security and stability, affirming their full support for the armed forces and their unwavering national positions in protecting the homeland and preserving its unity.
