Hannah Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, and her deputy, Stephanie Koury, met with a delegation of leading figures from the former Gaddafi regime.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the mission said that the meeting was part of its efforts to engage with broader segments of Libyan society on the political roadmap, including structured dialogue.

The statement added that the meeting emphasized the importance of inclusive participation and developing effective follow-up mechanisms to increase the chances of success and implement the outcomes. Tetteh reiterated the mission's commitment to engaging with all Libyans across the country as part of implementing the political roadmap.

During her August 21 briefing to the Security Council, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative presented a roadmap based on three pillars: establishing a technically sound electoral framework, unifying institutions through a new government, and organizing a “structured dialogue” with broad Libyan participation.

Tetteh said that implementing her plan depends on strengthening the Elections Commission by restructuring its board of directors and addressing the issues that contributed to the failure to hold elections in 2021.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya intends to soon launch an expanded version of the “structured dialogue” with groups discussing governance, the economy, security, national reconciliation, and human rights. Through this dialogue, the United Nations hopes to overcome current divisions and develop a shared national vision that paves the way for presidential and parliamentary elections.
