Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Libya's Government of National Unity (GNU) "is the only legitimate government that the world and Turkey deal with," expressing his "readiness to support any dialogue that leads to the stability of Libya, and the holding of elections without new transitional stages".

This came during a meeting with GNU Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba on the sidelines of the World Government Summit held in Dubai.

According to a GNU statement, the meeting discussed "economic cooperation between the two countries, in addition to discussing the Libyan political file, supporting international efforts to hold elections, and ending transitional stages."

On Tuesday, Dabaiba renewed his position rejecting the House of Representatives' proposal to form a unified government leading the country to presidential and legislative elections.

At the end of January, the Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, adhered to his position on "the need to form a unified government, to supervise the elections," in a meeting with the UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily.
