A delegation from the Libyan House of Representatives and the Osama Hammad-led government paid a two-day visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus.

A statement published by the government on Monday stated that the delegation met with the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Faisal Mekdad, the Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Hamouda Sabbagh, members of the Syrian People’s Assembly, and several government officials.

Government officials from eastern Libya last paid an official visit to Damascus in March 2020, when a delegation from the then interim government traveled “to discuss cooperation between the two countries in repelling Turkish aggression and combating terrorism.”

On May 22, 2023, the Minister of Housing and Construction for the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity, Abu Bakr Al-Ghawi, discussed cooperation in the fields of housing with the Syrian Minister of Public Works and Housing, Suhail Abdul Latif.
