The Derna Reconstruction Fund set up by Libya's parliament-appointed government announced on Thursday, the start of work to recontruct and develop the Derna University complex and all its accompanying facilities damaged by flooding.

The fund confirmed through its Facebook page that the company in charge of implementing this project "is a national company" working "under the supervision of a group of engineers from the city of Derna and under the direct follow-up of the Projects Office in the Derna Reconstruction Fund".

It added that the development will "guarantee an advanced education in line with the requirements of the labor market."

On December 27, the government announced the establishment of the fund to "formulate the general policy for the reconstruction of the city of Derna and the cities and areas affected by Storm Daniel", assigning Belgasim Khalifa Haftar as its executive director.

On January 2, the fund signed contracts with the Egyptian Arab Contractors Company. These contracts include the construction of new bridges at the western entrance to Derna.
