On Friday, Libyan Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi received a message of congratulations from US President Joe Biden on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of Libya's independence.

In his message, Biden wished progress, prosperity, and peace for the Libyan people, according to a Presidential Council statement.

Menfi received similar message of congratulations from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Britain's King Charles III.

Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba decided earlier that Sunday, December 24, will be an official holiday for all public institutions and bodies on the occasion of Libya's Independence Day.

The anniversary celebrated the culmination of the struggle that began against Italian colonizers who set foot on Libyan soil in 1911 and continued until Libya's declaration of independence on December 24, 1951.
