Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi, House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh and Libyan Arab Armed Forces Commander Khalifa Haftar, welcomed on Saturday participation in the round of dialogue called for by UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily, provided that "no party is excluded and that the reservations and demands for the meeting are taken into account".

The General Command's Information Ofiice added in a statement that Haftar, Menfi and Saleh met in Cairo, in the presence of Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel.

They stressed "the importance of the efforts led by the United Nations mission, and support for a balanced Libyan-Libyan solution in order to achieve the aspirations and hopes of the Libyan people to hold simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections."

The statement noted their call on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to "find common ground to ensure the success of the dialogue."

UN envoy Bathily has previously called on the five main parties in Libya to engage in a preparatory dialogue for a five-way summit between Saleh, Haftar, Menfi, High Council of State President Muhammad Takala and Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba.

The House of Representatives previously refused to participate in the meeting due to the parliament-appointed government led by Osama Hammad being sidelined.
