The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya has announced a voluntary return flight for 136 migrants to the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

The organization said it launched the voluntary humanitarian charter flight from Benghazi to Dhaka for "136 migrants on board (4 females and 132 males), including 41 with medical conditions, and two families."

It added that oboard was a specialized medical team to ensure the health of each passenger throughout the flight, as well as to ensure a dignified and safe return home.

In 2022, IOM supported the voluntary return of more than 11,000 irregular migrants from Libya to 21 countries.

In a previous report on the situation over the past year, IOM said migrants face challenges and risks such as "violence, exploitation, arbitrary detention, precarious living conditions and abuse by smugglers and human traffickers."
